Dear Food Weight Scale

You have been a friend and foe these last two weeks. You have shown me that more often than not, my eyes are bigger than my stomach. You have shown me the right portions and this has been a visual blessing. It's funny how you can just eyeball something and think its close, but when you put it on the scale you are so far off. We've been getting close, real close, at meal times. Sometime I think you lie to me when the small amount of food I give you really weighs 3 oz. Sometimes I wish you were dirty so I didn't have to use you.

I do need you food scale. I need you to keep me in check, to make sure I am eating only what I should be eating and not what I want to be eating. You have helped me stay on track these past two weeks and I am not ready to go on my own. I still need you there to carefully weigh my food and I will be sure to keep you washed and ready to go for the next weigh in!

Thank you scale and I look forward to keeping on track with you by my side, or at least on my counter!

  1. The scale told me, it really likes working for you. It said, "She's sooo appreciative, even when I give a result that does not please her." Alas, the feelings of respect and appreciation appear to be mutual!

I love our scale...the other day, when I was preparing our salads, I read on the back of the container that 3 ounces of salad contain only 25 calories, and I was like, "Oh hell no, there are more calories in salad than that!" Actually, I thought to myself, "How much IS three ounces of salad?" I turned to my trusty Cuisinart and said, "Let me know, Cuis!" I set our dinner plate on top, powered up the scale, and started to pile on the lettuce. And I piled it on. And piled it on. And still, I was barely at 2 ounces. Finally, when I hit three ounces, I nearly died! Never before in a restaurant - - even a fine-dining establishment - - have I had such a large salad served to me. And that's only 25 calories.

Alas, I join you in singing the praises of our food scales. I am often curious "How much yields how much" so use that tool to your advantage. For example, do you know how many blueberries constitute 100 grams? A lot!! Way more than I can eat!

  2. Jen, loved your post. And Daniel now I want to weigh some salad! Can't say I've EVER had a desire to do THAT!
